Atoms, Molecules, and Ions
I The examples of atom(element):
H, Cl, B, N, He, etc.
II Molecule consist of 2 kinds, that’re:
A. Element Molecule
The examples of element molecule are O2, P4, S8, N2, etc.
B. Compound Molecule
The examples of compound molecule are CO, NH3, NH, CO2, H2O, etc.
III Ions are atoms which are electronically charged, both which are positively charged are called cations and ions which are negatively charged are called anions.
The Examples:
| Ion Symbol | The Kind of Ions |
| Na + | Single Cation |
| K + | Single Cation |
| Mg 2+ | Single Cation |
| CL - | Single Anion |
| SO4 2- | Polyatomic Anion |
| NHy + | Polyatomic Cation |
A. Single Cations are ions which positively charged, and had an atom. The examples of Single Cations are Na +, O +, Mg 2+, etc.
B. Polyatomic Cations are ions which positively charged, and had more than one atoms. The examples of Polyatomic Cations are NHy +, CO2 +, etc.
C. Single Anions are ions which negatively charged, and had an atom. The examples of single anions are Cl -, O 2-, C 2-, etc.
D. Polyatomic Anions are ions which negatively charged, and had more than one atom. The examples of polyatomic anions are SO4 2-, CO -, etc.
